The Little Girl (5/14)
By: Saratika Kelly
There were two sisters, Anne and belle, they were walking back home from their long day of school, when they turned around the corner they saw a girl dressed well sitting on the sidewalk playing a beautiful drum. She played the drum with a really catchy beat. Her drum had a very peculiar design. In the middle it had an open space an a mechanical couple danced inside to the beat.
Anne thought it was weird to see a well dressed girl sitting alone, but Anne spoke to the girl “Hey, what’s your name?” The girl looked at them, rolled her eyes and kept playing. “That’s a beautiful drum you have, where did you buy it?” Anne kept pushing the conversation.
This time the girl responded by saying, “My dad made it for me, it’s the only one that exists in the whole world” she said. Anne and Belle were mesmerized by the toy, they had to have it, they begged the girl to give it to them or ask her dad to make one for them. The girl laughed and said, “My dad died, long ago and my mom did too. This is a very special toy I have, if I were to give it away it would be for something really big.”
“What do you want for it?” Anne asked.
“You have to go back home and be really bad, come back and tell all the bad things you did, and then I might give you my toy. Deal.”
The sisters agreed and went back to their house. Suddenly Belle comes with the brightest idea, she told Anne, “We can go back tomorrow and tell her we did all she ask, is not like she’ll know anyway.”
So the next day they went back to where they found the girl, and there she was.
“We have been really bad.” They lied. “We wrote all over our walls, broke my moms favorite base. Now can e have the drum.” Anne said.
“Um, not so fast.” The girl said “ I know that you are lying to me. Come back tomorrow and bring me proof that you have been really bad. Deal.” The sisters nodded in agreement.
They again walked away annoyed, and again the girl giggled at them. When they arrived home, their mom was still at work, so they decided to be really bad, and then clean after before their mom comes back. They tore up the pillows, mutilated their stuffed animals, and destroyed their bedspreads. This time really broke their mom’s favorite base and gathered the pieces to show the girl the proof of their naughtiness. This would be enough for the girl to give them the drum, they thought.
When they met the girl the next day she laughed and said “You guy really don’t know what bad is, so just go home.” Then the girl turned her back toward the girls and started playing her drum.
Annoyed Anne yelled “ Just tell us what to do.” The girl turned around, reached to her back pockets, and got out a bloody knife and a cup, then told them “Bring me your mother’s blood.”
“Let’s get out of here sister.” Anne said. “That toy is not worth all this trouble.”
As they turned to leave the girl called after them, her voice much deeper than it was before, “ Once you made a pact, you can’t go back. I will be taking something of yours, weather you like it or not.”
The sisters sprinted home. They opened the door, however, when the looked around at their surroundings nothing was inside no furniture no rooms, nothing. There was only one door and then they heard a familiar beat , the walls began to vibrate in a familiar rhythm. They tried to make a run to the door, just to find their moves stiffen, and then their bodies controlled by the beat. Above them the little girl, not so little anymore.

MACUDUS (5/9)
By: Eileen Xue
His name is Macudus, and he is a cat. Macudus is a writer, a ventriloquist, case-solver, lock-picker, and fugitive. And he was on the run from the police for a very long time.
He also doesn’t believe he’s very talented, but I would say his skills are quite impressive for a feline. In fact, he’s very humanoid -- but of course, humans no longer exist. Here’s what happened to him before we started the New Society and eliminated Macudus from our project.
---
Macudus was a black and white cat with stripes all over the length of his body and to the tips of his tail. He was disturbed, which ultimately meant he wasn’t very happy with himself, his home, the outside, inside, or anything that our Property had to offer. His therapist diagnosed him with paranoia, which meant he saw the world in ways that didn’t exist.
This is very important because Macudus had a faulty therapist. His Doctor, #1009, didn’t try to fix him and instead told him to come to terms with reality. On our Property, this is an illegal act, since all of our citizens deserve to feel happy.
Because #1009 did not cooperate, we had to seize him and temporarily close his practice. When citizens no longer act agreeable with one another, we send them to Reformation, which can fix them by recalibrating with the Control Center. This is a very simple process, because many of our citizens are not alive. Macudus is one of the few who is not a machine.
Because of this, we keep a close eye on those citizens, since they are prone to developing Hysteria and A List of Other Disorders. And once they are broken, we no longer can fix them. As a result, we were very concerned about Macudus’s exposure to the manipulation of unit #1009. However, when we went in to find him, Macudus had already disappeared.
It was at this time that he started doing a lot of impressive things for a cat. In the period between Sun 13A and Dark 15B, he had broken into our holding facilities, evaded several police officers, snuck into the Capitol in diguise, and stolen unit #1009 from Reformation. By this time, we had already decided to abandon this first project, and Macudus gave us a lot of difficulty. When we finally detained him, he had already disrupted the underground explosive system and caused blockages in our central wiring.
Which is why I was impressed to write this report. Although we did have to terminate him before the New Society, he brought to attention some serious flaws in our system, which we revised before starting the second project. An incident like this most likely will not occur again.
End Report

Till Death do us part
By: Saratika Kelly
There was once a couple, Ela and Andrew, and they were over the moon in love. One of the things that brought them together in the first place was their competitive nature. They always focused on accomplishing their goals and bring the best out of themselves, of course their competitiveness was friendly and well intentioned.
Eight years passed and they were engaged, however there was a point of tension in the relationship, Andrew didn’t like Ela’s best friend, Belinda, he was always jealous of her. He was convinced that Belinda was terribly in love with his bride to be and would try to sabotage their wedding. But Ela would reassure him that he was just overthinking the things, and that would never happen. “She’s my best friend since childhood, she’ll never do something like that” she said, but Andrew asked “Have you ever had feelings for her?” She paused, then said, “Yes, but it was years ago.” Andrew was furious by Ela’s answer.
“You have to uninvite her” he said
“Are you serious, she’s one of my bridesmaid I can't do that, she is gonna be in my bridal party!” Ela responded.
“I can't have her in our wedding this is supposed to be the happiest day of our lives and I can't handle seeing her there.” The couple just stood there in silence staring at each other, seeing who would give in first. After a few minutes, Ela spoke “If thats what will make you happy that’s what I'll do.”
The day of the wedding arrived, the couple had forgotten their past arguments, they were happy that the day had come. Ela was happy for the venue she had found, her parents lavish ancient victorian house, the house had more rooms than anyone could ever imagine. The ceremony was going to be held outside in the gardens, and the reception was going to be inside. The guests were already filing the seats and Ela was hiding from sight near the end of the isle, suddenly Andrew appeared next to her. “Andrew!” She said “You’re not supposed to see me”
“She’s here, Why is she here?, you told me you uninvited her”
“Oh my God Andrew she’s seating in the back, she’s not invited to the bridal party, plus you don’t have to see her or talk to her.”
“Well I did see her”
“Really you're gonna do this right now?” At this point the couple’s voices were rising causing the guests to look at them.
“How about if we play hide and seek, with all the guests” Ela said “That always seems to cheer you up. Then I’ll talk to Belinda, deal.”
Andrew sighed, “I know that I’m being ridiculous, I know that she’s an important person to you, but I just.... Forget it. This is our wedding. I love you.”
“I love you too, now lets play, I’ll be it”
The guests were all informed of the game before the ceremony and they willingly participated. Ela closed her eyes and began counting backwards from thirty, and the guests began scattering around the house. The property was huge so there was plenty of space. “Ready or not here I come” Ela said, Ela grew in this house so she knew every single corner of this house like the palm of her hand.
She had no trouble finding everyone except... for the groom. So all the guests began to help Ela find the groom. Ela heard whispers of the guests saying that the groom maybe had escaped their wedding due to their previous argument that day. She searched the property five times. Andrew was nowhere to be found.
Ela collapsed to the ground in tears. Belinda approached her and said “I know this is not what you want to hear but I saw Andrew running out of this place the second you closed your eyes and begin counting, I'm so sorry Ela.” The wedding of course wasn't happening, so all the guests headed home while Belinda kept comforting Ela “You’re my best friend, I’ll always be there for you, remember,” she held out her pinky finger and said “Together forever” the bride smiled and hooked her pinky finger to Belinda’s and said “No matter whatever.” Days passed, Belinda and Ela became closer that ever. Usual hangouts ended in casual dates. Which led to a surprisingly fast engagement, The wedding venue again was Ela’s Victorian house, Ela’s parents felt a bit strange that their daughter would plan a wedding at their home again. But they just wanted her to be happy. So Belinda, Ela and her parents begin cleaning up their house for the wedding. Ela went upstairs to see if she could find some table cloths and decor for the wedding. That’s when she noticed a door, it wasn’t there before when she was a kid. “Mom? was this door always here?” she shouted down the stairs, her mom replied “ No, we added that room a couple of years ago for extra storage” She opened the door to find a really messy and dusty room filled with boxes and furniture. In the middle of the room was a large antique trunk there was a lock with the key still inside, curious she turned it and lifted the heavy lid with both hands. The trunk released a disgusting odor, she dropped the lid on one side and covered her nose, then peered inside to find inside a rotting corpse of man whose body had been cutted in pieces. The man's skin was covered in blood just as the suit he wore.... The suit, the suit was the exact suit Andrew was wearing on their wedding day. Ela heard footsteps behind her, she turned around to find Belinda in the doorway “Bellinda? You said you saw him leaving the minute the game started. You knew he was in here didn’t you?” Belinda continued to stare, her face emotionless, her eyes cold as steel. “Bellinda did you do this?” Ela asked
“We made a promise Ela, and I wasn't gonna let anyone in between us, don't you remember?” she held out her pinky, “Together forever, no matter whatever.”

My Eyes do not belong to me
By Brian Fernandez Jr.
I, as a young boy, have never been able to see perfectly. I have always had blurry vision and my parents have never taken me to see an optometrist. In class I would need to sit in the very front row, squinting and trying to focus on what my teachers wrote on the board. My notes looked like a jumbled mess written by somebody who does not understand English.
By the time I was in my teen years, I was required to take medication for my headaches due to my eyesight worsening as my eyes have not yet adjusted to my dreadful prescription glasses. The world is beyond imaginable, beyond what I would have thought it would have looked like, beyond perfect.
Now before I tell you what happened to me, I do not know how much more I can write. They are all around me. I will try to keep posting on this forum for as long as I can.
One particular gloomy day, I was at home walking to my room I noticed a slight change in the frequency of my vision. It was as if my eyes had took every color and darkened it like a contrast setting. I stopped, frozen; frightened at what would happen next. It was obvious that it was not a power outage because the lights to my right, from my parent’s room illuminated a yellowish glow.
As I tried to take a step forward, I felt as if I was being held down, as if a dark and powerful force was grasping me in his inescapable clutches. Before I could look at the gravitational force holding me down, my father called out to me, “You all right bud?” I turned my head to the left, looking to the kitchen, where my father was. The pounds of evil weight and dark energy ceased to exist.
“Yeah, Dad, I’m fine.”
You, the forum readers may be wondering what that was, forcing me down. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to look up and see whatever the force was during this frightening moment.
It was a late night, about 10 pm. My parents were in bed by this time and I was in my room. I moped to my parents room, not wearing my glasses, and hoping I was not stopped along the way. The walk to my parents room took longer than it usually did, due to me not wearing my glasses, but I had to take my medication for the excruciating headaches throughout the day that I got.
“Mom can you give me my medicine?” I asked with slight hesitation, worried for getting in trouble for taking it so late. She handed me the bottle of pills. I took one out, gave her back the bottle and headed back to my room to swallow it with water.
As I entered my room, I stopped in my tracks. I saw. I saw someone sitting on my bed. It was a little girl. Her black hair was covering her face. She was wearing pink pajamas and looking down at her feet fiddling with her thumbs. I started itching my eyes not knowing what I was seeing. Once I opened them she was gone.
“Was she really there or was I seeing things?”, I thought to myself. “Am I seeing things and feeling things that are not there?” “Are all these events real? Or am I just imagining it all?”, I questioned myself anxiously.
I did not sleep in my room that night, I could not. I did not know what happened. It was as if she was inside my head making me see her. Everything else around her was blurry like it normally was without my glasses.
The next morning I woke up, but I did not wake up in my living room. I woke up in my bedroom, in my bed. This caused some confusion, for obvious reasons. I did not fall asleep in my bed, I crashed on the living room couch. I got out of bed and put my glasses on. I saw that there was no one in my room and so I proceeded to walk to the kitchen where my parents would be, eating breakfast.
“Mom, Dad? Did one of you move me from the living room to my room last night?”, I asked in a raspy voice with a yawn at the end.
My mom and dad both looked at each other, both wearing a puzzled expression and I immediately knew the answer was no. I wondered if I slept walked, or if it was perhaps something else.
As I sat down at the kitchen table to eat, my ears focus on the slow ticking of the clock hanging in the hallway. My mind, heart and breathing slowed down to equal the ticking of the clock. I got tunnel vision. I started to notice how everything around me was broken, not perfect, and disgusting. The world around started to look horrendous. Nothing seemed perfect as if it was before. Everything made me mad, anxious, and scared.
I could not bare to see the world. I had to take my glasses off, to rid the my view of evil. When I took my glasses off they were everywhere. Figures, entities, and insidious beings were all around me. They were all around everyone. It was between the sight of the imperfect world or this hellish realm of evil that make up our surroundings.

Into the UNKNOWN (3/31)
By: Julia Owen
If only she had known how dreamlike this land would be, she would have brought a camera. Although the rules prohibited it, she so badly wanted to preserve the landscape before her. The first sun was setting on the horizon, splashing blues, purples, and faint greens onto the clouds. The second sun, yes, the second sun, was at the midpoint of the sky. Compared to the soft blue of the first sun, the second sun was pink and red, washing the land in a mystic glow.
Emerging from the tree trunk was an odd experience of its own, but nothing compared to the fuzzy pink caterpillars that were the size of her foot and as thick as her thigh, crawling around on even bigger leaves. She felt so small in this world. The air was humid and thick, the sun, although its intimidating color, was quite cool as the rays fell upon her cheek.
“I don’t want to leave.” She took a deep breath, noticing the sweet smell that surrounded her. It caused her stomach to rumble. She hadn’t eaten yet and was excited to try the strange foods of this world. She looked at her strange abductor, hoping he would get the hint that she was ready to venture forward.
“Let's go, young one.” The giant human-like panther dropped to four paws, allowing the girl to grab onto his thick coat and disappear into the jungle.

“Let's go, young one.” The giant human-like panther dropped to four paws, allowing the girl to grab onto his thick coat and disappear into the jungle.
Dating APP DISASTER (4/2)
By: Saratika Kelly
Alexa sat at the bar alone nervously scrolling through her phone, watching some instagram posts to distract herself while waiting for her date. Everytime the door opened she turned around to look at the person entering the bar, and then she’d glance down at her phone. She had been sitting there for at least 20 minutes. As the time passed she lost hope that her date will come. The bartender noticed this and said, “Waiting for someone?” Alexa stared at him, watched his name tag that read “Eliot” and she said “Uh… yeah” and she kept scrolling through her phone.
Eliot wanted to engage in a conversation so he pressed on “I hate when people do that, so disrespectful” Alexa looked at him and said “I know right, but he’s probably late because of the traffic. I don’t know. Is that common on these things?” She gestured to her phone showing Eliot the famous dating app, Tinder.
“Oh, you got a date on Tinder? You haven't heard the bad things people are saying about it?”
“No”
They kept conversing, Eliot invited her a few drinks and Alexa had almost forgot about her date, It took Alexa five minutes to figure that he never showed up. She was tired , so she asked for her bill, but Eliot said he had taken care of it. Alexa thanked him and walked out of the bar. As soon as she walked out of the bar. She saw that Eliot was behind her, he said “Hey, um I really had a good time talking to you so, I was wondering if I could take your number”
“Uh,I also had a good time, but I’m not looking for a boyfriend at the moment.” She turned and headed for her car but stopped when she heard Eliot “I don’t understand, did I do anything wrong?”
“ Um… no I’m just not interested in dating anyone at the moment”
“What? You were literally waiting for a date! Come on just one more drink”
“I-I have to go sorry.” She continued to her car, she could feel Elliot's eyes following her as she drove away.
After a few minutes of being on the road a car appeared behind her. The car began flashing its lights and kept driving at full speed to reach her car. She assumed the car wanted to pass her so she pulled over for a little moment, but the car kept driving behind her and honking wildly. What the hell did they want? She asked herself. The car finally pulled beside her. It was, Eliot.
Oh God, oh God, oh God, she thought to herself, just ignored him and focus your eyes on the road. She heard Eliot yelling at her to pull over, to stop the car. He can’t be serious, Alexa thought. She was regretting not giving her number to Eliot even as a courtesy, she didn’t really have to answer his calls or messages.
From the corner of her eye she saw that Eliot extended his arm to reach her, when she turned Eliot had actually pulled a gun. She screamed, hit the brakes and pulled over. Eliot also pulled over and Alexa got out of the car with her hands up, she fell to her knees and began to cry. “What do you want from me?” She said.
“Get out of the car!” he said
“I am out of the car you maniac!”
“Not you! Him!
Eliot continued looking over her shoulder, curious she looked behind her. From the back seat arose a man, the man she was supposed to meet at the bar. Eliot held the gun pointed at the man, while Alexa called the police. When the police arrived she told her story. Apparently Tinder was attracting a lot of freaks, the security measures on the app were really low, that it was extremely easy to gather someone's personal information. There were a lot of cases, like hers, where man would wait at women's cars or even at their homes and then being brutally killed.
After the officers arrested the man Alexa found a rope in the back of her seat and she was so grateful to not have been this man next victim.
“Thanks for saving my life” she told Eliot.
“Would you now be interested to go on a date with me?” he asked, and they both chuckled.
“No, Eliot honestly I'm just not interested. I hope you understand”
“Well, then I hope I see you around sometime soon.”
Alexa went to her car and started to head home. But Eliot took his phone out snapped a photo of Alexa’s car and opened up Tinder, Hacker version 2.0 Apparently he would meet her very, very soon.

The Failed Party (4/26)
By: Saratika Kelly
I’m a dad, and I always have a lot of troubles with my son, sometimes I don’t know how to make him respect me. Everyday this seems to get worse, he told me that if I get him a Lamborghini for his birthday he will have respect for me. This was my chance to show my son that I’m not the loser he thinks I am. So I called this car dealership company:
Service department, John speaking
I was wondering at what time the open hours end, to uh I was trying to bring… uh, my son’s dreams to have a party at the lamborghini showroom, so...
Have you tried calling the showroom
Uh... can I just say that you and me are best friends or something?
No don’t say that
But what could possibly happen?
Yeah, no thank you, I got to respond to the next call, bye
***Hangs up***
I decided to call the Showroom
Hey this is Jay speaking’’
Hey this is Galbani, close friends with John over the Service Department
OK?
Your the showroom guy right?
Am I the showroom guy? I’m one of the guys in the showroom
Do you think is possible to throw a small birthday party, and buy like three dominos pizzas?
That’s not gonna happen, this is a car dealership company not Chuck-e-Cheese
Yeah, I know, my son just wanted a small party and all the lambos in the background so we can take a few photos for instagram
Yeah, No
What if I bring you a piece of cake
No, you gotta talk to my manager
But… but I gotta do this,uh… ok this is between you and I, my son keeps calling me a little b****, because I drive a Honda
Sir, I can’t allow someone to have a party over here
But I’m trying to do this so my son can respect me a little more, I don’t like the way he’s been talking to me lately
How old is he?
He’s twelve
Well tell him to walk, you won’t get any respect by spoiling him, you should make him walk
Yeah, but have you heard of this guy named Jake paul, he told me “Jake paul is 20 and you are 45 how come you don't drive a lambo dad”, and he puts me in a tough spot, I mean I work at chipotle and can barely afford a free guac.
I think your son is asking for too much, tell him to get everything himself
What kind of car you have?
It doesn't matter
What if I can just borrow the Lambo so I can just drop him at school and then I’ll give it back to you
No, you can't do that, you have to buy the car
If I put my son on the line would you be able to tell him something, ‘cause I don’t know how to deal with this
**Son on the line**
S-sir can we borrow the car for a couple hours
No
You can have some pizza
No thanks, this is a showroom we are here to sell cars not to give our cars to random clowns
B-but, when I’m 18 I’ll buy a car from you
We are here to sell cars not to open parties
But by the time I’m 18 I’ll be a millionaire, like my hero Jake Paul
Well, you can come in here with Jake Paul and tell him to buy a car for you!
I- I know but for him is everyday bro, and I don’t know if he has time to come
You’re only twelve, you have very high expectations, and you need to work hard to get there
B-but my dad has a freaking honda
But your dad is taking care of you, that is good enough
Sir, what car do you drive?
It doesn’t matter, I don’t drive a lambo or a ferrari
I was just wondering if you also drive a sh**ty car like my dad
It doesn’t matter
You sound like a guy who drives an Echo, but it’s okay, can we come today?
But you’re not going to open a party
But I thought you have a test drive
You can go and do that to Toyota, PASS ME WITH YOUR DAD KID!
***DAD ON THE LINE***
Hey did you tell my so-
Bro I have to attend other customers, I’m gonna hang up
Sorry he called you a loser
Have a great day, Bye

That day was so frustrated my son kept putting up a fight so I decided to take revenge on Jay the guy who works at the Motors company. I ordered pizzas and a custom cake to be delivered at the car dealership and make them pay for everything:
Motors this is Jay
Hey this is Henry, Im calling from Papa John’s Pizza I just wanted to confirm the order for Jay to the showroom, the order is a bit strange so I wanted confirmation.
I never ordered a pizza. You got the wrong address
But the address is at the Motors company and you ordered it. Are you Jay?
Yeah, but I never ordered a pizza
Is not actually a pizza sir, there are five pizzas for a birthday party
This is a car dealership!
But you ordered five pizzas and a cake saying “Is your day Jigaboo”
Well is not my birthday
Well it seems that you authorized someone to celebrate their birthday at the showroom
Wait a minute, someone just called me requesting a birthday party, a twelve year old, I... I mean they are crazy
It seems we received authorization to charge the Motors company. We are like 13 minutes away and we made the custom cake and the pizzas
That not my problem
Well someone has to pay for it
Well that’s not my problem
So you didn’t ordered the pizzas?
You have a good day, bye.
***Hangs up***
My plan wasn’t going as planned so I called the Motors Company
Hey this is Galbani we spoke like three hours ago, We have like 300 kids here who want to see your lambos
Don’t come, If you come I’m gonna call the police, I never told you, you could have a party here. Have a good day.

You CAN Feel It, But You Can't See it
By: Saratika Kelly
You can feel it, but you can’t see it
I’m a nurse and I work at a hospital, I won’t say what hospital because of privacy reasons. The hospital is old it was built during the early 1880’s and as a nurse working there it always creeps me up, not only because I work full time but also of the stories that my colleagues tell me about the hospital, which makes me detest my job. Some say that this hospital used to be a beautiful house and the owner who lived here was buried in the in the backyard of the hospital, but it seems like my colleagues are just trying to scare me since I’m new at this hospital. Other than the scary stories they tell me, the staff is cold to me. Every time I try to engage on a conversation they smile and walk away, everyone is like that, except Lucy, I get along really well with her, she is always positive which is good and also works full time like me. I usually ask her what is the problem with everyone? to what she responds “They are just cranky for the night shifts.”
Lucy is really into ghost stories. I’m a catholic and I don’t believe in any of her tales, but I like to listen to them, and I have to say that she is a really good storyteller. She told me about some unbelievable stuff that happened to her as a kid.
“Yeah, I see spirits all the time, I sort of got used to it”
“All the time huh? So even right now?” I asked jokingly.
Lucy paused then chuckled. She never answered my question?
A couple of weeks passed and Lucy and I were working the dayshift, visiting hours ended and I was doing my usual rounds, suddenly I heard muttering around me, I turned and saw some of the staff looking at me strangely. Seriously what is their problem with me, I thought, I ignored them as I always do.
About an hour later I was notified that a patient had died and I was tasked with delivering the body down in the basement were the morgue is. This would be my first time going down there. Lucy told me it was the oldest part of the building. The only part that was never renovated.
“Be Careful down there” she told me, I thought she was trying to scare me, but I had nothing to be afraid of a police officer would always escort nurses to the basement to ensure that the bodies weren't disturbed in any way.
So the policemen, the dead body and I stepped into the elevator from the sixth floor, I pressed the button for the basement and we began to descent. We stopped momentarily and began to move again but when the door opened we were in the sixth floor, the same floor we were before. I pressed the basement button again and the same thing happened we found ourselves back on the sixth floor. It was as if the elevator didn't want us to go there .
“Are you trying to play a prank” he said accusingly.
After countless tries the elevator didn't work, so we decided to take the ramp all the way down. When we reached the basement it was clear that no one took care of it, the original brick walls remained and pipes were jutting out of the walls, the lights were dirty and flickering, it was definitely cold and creepy down there, but that's because it was old.
After we dropped the body of in the morgue, we were on our way back, I was a few feet ahead of the policeman and suddenly I heard him say my name
“Emma.” I turned around and he just stared at me.
“What?”
“Didn't you just say my name?”
“I didn't say anything.”
“Oh”
We continued walking and I heard my name again, this time it was being yelled. Just as I turned around the policeman screamed as if he was in pain and fell to his knees, I ran to help him up and as I was trying to help I caught something from the corner of my eye, I turned right in time to see a shadowy figure, disappearing through the wall. I turned to the policeman and he definitely saw it too.
We ran up to the sixth floor without stopping, I noticed the policeman was holding the back of his neck and told him if I could take a look and what I saw was... I was so confused, a deep dark bruise was forming, he said it was if someone had punched him really hard, but I was there nothing could have hit him. He went home after that.
I walked back up to the sixth floor and Lucy was there as if she sensed what had happened.
“What happened down there?” she asked
I couldn't speak I was still trying to make sense of what had happened.
“Oh my God, did Randall do something?”
“Randall? Who's Randall?
Lucy paused and took a deep breath, “There’s something I need to tell you, ever since you've been working here um... there’s this guy, well he really seems to like you.”
“You mean someone who works here?, what does that have to do with anyth--”
“ No! He's am not alive, I think he's a veteran, well was, but he's not around you every time he just follows you around here, so much so that the staff is scared to come near you, he's always putting his arm around you I think he seems really protective of you and I think he got jealous when you were down there with the policeman.”
I sighed, “Lucy, you know I love your stories but I don't find this funny.”
Her expression remained the same, “I'm sorry I-I didn't want to say anything because I thought it was harmless but it seems that he's gone…mad.

LAke Guardian
By: Megan Lacy
A young adventurer hears of a tale.
There is a lake. Past the vineyards, past the rolling hills, past the verdant woods, past the monster infested forest, past the harsh mountain tops, in a hidden cavern in a dreary cave, there is a lake. This lake is said to light up the rocky cavern, moonlight shining in and reflecting off of the milky white waves. The lake goes on to an unreachable depth, certainly dooming anyone who attempts to find its end. Legend tells that if one were to reach the bottom, they would find unthinkable treasures from times long past, and whatever’s left of those who tried to find that treasure.
Of course, the legend is incomplete without the guardian of the lake: an eight-legged dog, said to be 30 feet long, with opalescent fur, golden eyes, and teeth larger than your hand. Some say she’s kind and gentle, others say she’s monstrous and gruesome. All say she’s something to behold.
Though many have tried to find the lake, few have succeeded, and, as of late, few have even come back. The legend has been passed down from mother to daughter, from friend to friend, from brother to sister, from bar patron to bar patron, each time slightly differing. Some claim to have seen the lake, but none are ever believed. Not that it stops folks from dreaming.
An old adventurer remembers a tale.
They’re late in their life, and they know their time is soon. They’re unsure how they made it this far- they haven’t seen another living creature in weeks. Their food is gone, their water low, and their knees ache and their back is sore and their heart is resigned. As they’re ready to lay down on the cool rock of the dreary cave, they spot a subtle light. They carefully make their way through the crevice, having to leave their bags behind.
They stand at the edge of the lake, tears welling in their eyes. A gentle hand cups their face, and they graciously lean into it.
“You must be so tired,” she says, her voice soft and kind. “You’ve come a long way. I’m very proud of you.” The adventurer opens their mouth to speak, but all that comes is a strangled noise. Another hand comes to rest on their other cheek, while yet another gingerly takes their sword and shield. “Shh, it’s alright. It’s time to come home now.”
And with that, they step into the lake.

The Deadly Routine
By: Saratika Kelly
Have you ever forgotten your phone and reached for it and it wasn’t there, well this happened to me and it’s more deadly than you think.
Today, I was awaken by my alarm, as usual, and realised that the battery on my phone was at ten percent, instead of putting it inside my bag, as I always do, I dropped my phone on the counter to let it charge. While it was charging, I took a shower. It was just one slip from my routine but it was all it took, my brain was like FORGOT FORGOT. But this is very normal brain function, your brain works on many functions, like when you’re walking, you don’t focus on how you’re breathing or how you look while walking, you rather focus on your destination, of avoiding certain streets or areas. This always happens to me like when going to work I focus on whether I should get a coffee on the way, or whether I will finish my work on time to pick up my daughter Emily from her daycare after work.
This thing is something that your brain does automatically, it follows a routine so your brain can think of other things. Some people call it AUTOPILOT, but following a routine can be rather deadly. When you forget something from your routine your brain goes into memory mode and you need to stop your brain from thinking of other things to focus and remember what you did that day.
Today, I didn’t stop my routine or went into “MEMORY MODE”, my brain went to “AUTOPILOT ENGAGED” I showered, made breakfast for my daughter and after that we went into the car, she looked so adorable, while driving she was complaining of how it was so hot outside and the backseat of the cars were burning, she told me to wake her up when we get to the daycare center, and she fell asleep. Suddenly I was thinking of what would the meeting at work is going to be about, if I had enough money to pay the bills next week. It wasn’t until I got out of work that my hand reached inside my bag to get out my phone and it wasn’t there, my brain went into “MEMORY MODE”, I remembered my phone on the caunter, the day was starting to get hot, Emily shifting under her sit complaining, I submitted my work, went to the boring meeting, went to get a coffee during my break, then I checked my bag and the memory came to my mind I had forgotten my phone on the counter, I cursed under my breath. Then “AUTOPILOT DISENGAGED” there I was one of the worst days of my life. Even though I had a bad day the day continued. The day continued to be hot, I was thirsty so went into a store to buy water, people were passing by going on with their life.
Still cursing at myself for forgetting my phone I drove home, the steering wheel was burning under my hands, the days heat had baked the inside of my car, releasing a horrible smell.
When I got home I felt I had forgotten something, again my brain went into “MEMORY MODE”, I had forgotten to pick Emily up from her daycare center.
I sped up there to find a sign at the door, “DUE TO VANDALISM USE THE BACK DOOR” I remembered not seeing this sign toda..- I froze I hadn’t been here this morning then “MEMORY MODE” phone forgotten, the boring meeting, the blazing sun and then Emily falling asleep, I had driven past the daycare center.
I hadn’t dropped Emily off today, so where is she “MEMORY MODE” the blazing sun, emily shifting, the steering wheel burning under my hads, the horrible sme… The horrible smell, I went to the car, opened the back door, there she was, my daughter dead…

The Pearl shelter
By: Eileen Xue
Deep in the woods, he finally reached the pearl shelter.
Scales painted opal, with eyes gleaming crimson, towering is the pearl shelter.
With flesh rippling under clusters of jewels, and warm blood inside its veins
It was a fearsome treasure to behold.
The pearl shelter.
He ripped the strings of light and luster off it’s back.
Heaving and shuddering, glaring over him was the pearl shelter.
Who plunders here disappears forever, into the the belly of the beast
Down, down, safe, warm, and into the core.
The pearl shelter.
Merging again as one, the shelter gains another piece of those who hoped to claim it.
It waits and waits for someone to disturb its residents.

The Chicken

Dad, can tell you a joke?.
Tell me.
Why did the chicken cross the road?
I Don’t know, Why?
To visit the house of a dumb man.
Ha, THATS FUNNY MY SON.
Minutes later...
Knock, Knock...
Who’s there?
The chicken that came to visit you.
Tell me.
Why did the chicken cross the road?
I Don’t know, Why?
To visit the house of a dumb man.

Rudence

“Hey Rudence I’m going to the gym, wanna go with me?”
“Are you telling me I’m fat?”
“No, just asking if you wanted to go, but if you don’t then stay home.”
“Now you’re telling me I’m lazy”
“No, just calm down”
“Now you’re telling me I’m hysterical”
“No, no, no, that’s not what I said”
“Now you’re telling me I‘m a liar”
“Well don’t go then”
“And may I know why do you want to go alone?”

Hey! Nobody fell down a hole, and NoOne is helping him!
Are you stupid or what?
How did you know?

Why karen took the kids
By: Alan Olea and Tino Montenegro
Legend has it that Karen took the kids, but did we ever stop to ask why Karen took the kids? My name is Sal and I am tonight's biggest loser. The woman to take my heart was Karen. She had almond-shaped eyes, wonderful blonde, silky smooth hair, and a perfectly symmetrical face. She was always serious and had a level 100 boss temper, a temper I thought I could control, but I was a level 1 crook. When she didn’t get the right color dress, or if she deemed the waiter's attitude wasn’t to her liking, She demanded to speak with the owner or manager. Nonetheless, she was everything I wanted. On our 10th date, I proposed and I was delighted to hear her say yes. Five years passed and we had children. I began to gain weight but I was happy because our family was finally complete, my wife loved me and my kids adored me! Another five years passed and I was now thirty-five years old, It was a good morning and the birds were chirping. Unbeknownst to me, I would have my peaceful world shattered. She came home with a face of stone, I was curious to see what it was she was holding behind her back, and what made her have that expression. Karen looked at me and said “I...I want a divorce.” She handed me a manila envelope and turned to face the door. hen she got there, she turned to say, “I expect your signature to be on the papers in two days, my lawyer will come to get them.” I was in shock. How could she! Karen, my lovely wife, the one who looked after me when I was ill, and the mother of my children. How had I messed up? She was my goddess and I was supposed to be her Adonis. My safe and wonderful world was quickly becoming black. How could this have happened when everything was so bright? I wept. I was filled with rage! How dare she leave me after I let her into my world, and I in hers. The years I spent with her was for nothing! Now they are just sad memories that take me to the past that I so desperately want to grasp. I grabbed the papers the next day, with hands shaking with anger and loneliness, and signed. We had a meeting 3 days later. Karen didn’t just want a divorce, she wanted the kids. During the meeting, She pointed out that I reeked of alcohol and had matted hair. Both her lawyer and mine turned to look at me and I looked back in embarrassment. It was a mistake to go to that meeting, but we usually stop to think when things have passed, right? After weeks of court and papers, I lost visitation rights. She took them, Karen took the kids. Karen took everything. When I asked her why she left me all she said: “While you were being happy and playing with the kids, you gave them all of your attention, never noticing that I was unhappy, I no longer have feelings for you and I’ve found another. I have taken the kids from you and you-will-not-be-seeing-them-anytime-soon.” It’s been 7 years and Karen still hasn’t let me see the kids. But someday I will, for the time being, I will wait. I have now become a meme known as “sal tonight’s big loser” and unfortunately, I am. The only thing that eases the pain is that Karen also became one. She is known for taking the kids, the title of this story relates to the “Karen took the kids” meme.

Chinese New YEar
By: Eileen Xue
As a part of my Chinese heritage, I celebrate Chinese New Year on February 5th with my family. However, on the day before (New Years Eve), it is customary to have a big dinner and cook traditional Chinese dishes and dessert. This year, my family prepared water chestnut cakes, sweet and sour pork, stir fried noodles, bamboo shoots, rice, and milk candy to celebrate. However, we also included American dishes like baked lobster, chips and dip, and chicken empanadas. As I am writing this, it is New Year’s Day. In China, people usually get 10 days off of work for visiting families and celebrating the New Year. Since it is the year of the pig, it is lucky to wear red if you have this zodiac sign. With all the food I had on New Year’s Eve, I feel really “pigged out” too.

The Failed Engagement Proposal
By: Saratika Kelly
One day, a girl called Stella had a date with her boyfriend, Stefan, had planned this date for many days. This was the moment of his life, he was going to finally propose to her girlfriend on christmas day. He had put the engagement ring on the right pocket of a baby size doll he bought just to surprise his girlfriend, since she loved dolls.
The date was planned to be at an amusement park. When they arrived there, they were excited to try the new roller coaster ride. So they entered and got scared a few times. they were having the time of their lives. But suddenly the roller coaster sits stopped at the very top, so Stefan decided that it was the time the boyfriend had waited for, he was going to propose his girlfriend, who still wondered why he was carrying a doll.
He was about to propose to her, but suddenly Stella threw the doll down the roller coaster because she thought he had to be crazy to be happy for this odd situation and giving her a doll. The boyfriend surprised went after the door throwing himself down the trails of the roller coaster until he fell. She watched her boyfriend dead on the ground, at the sametime she was thinking, what did the doll have, that was so valuable it was just a doll. Finally an ambulance came who took care of Stefan and all the passengers in the sits. When Stella was rescued she came down to pick up the doll and when she grabbed the doll she felt something hard in one of the pockets, like if some kind metal was inside the pocket, so she took it out and found a ring and with it a note saying You don’t know what you have until you lost it.

One Inch
By: Aubrey Liddi
One inch holds more power than we may think. Some of us take advantage of that one inch by using it to try and change people.
We may say, “If only you were an inch...
-taller
-smarter
-prettier
-stronger
-skinnier
...than you would be acceptable.”
But who's to say what acceptable means? Who’s to determine whether another individual is an acceptable human being or not? Who has the right to tell another they are an inch from perfection?
The answer is no one. In fact, you can not believe you yourself are an acceptable human being if you tell others they are not acceptable. You have to accept others for who they are so that they can truly accept themselves.
After that it is up to them to decide if they are living up to their own personal definition of acceptable. It is up to them to choose what path they will go upon. It is up to them to know they do not need those extra inches to be acceptable because who they truly are is more than enough.

Majestic Christmas Tree
By: Alan Olea
Every year, I enjoy setting up the Christmas tree. The thought of placing ornaments brings a smile to my face! What I relish most of all is when I am the one to place the tinsel around the tree! The way they shine in holiday lights is mesmerizing, especially when I'm in a car and see a tree and it's wrapped top to bottom with it. I'm always delighted when I place ornaments on the Christmas tree and position the star on top. What I deem the best part of setting up a Christmas tree is when I complete it and stand back to admire every little detail and how everything compliments one another. In my eyes, it is truly majestic.
The Exterminator
By: Gage Heeszel
The weather was harsh. Snow littered the ground. A shadowy figure, wearing a plague doctor mask with a fedora and a trench coat, walked through. It left light footsteps behind in the snow. The figure stopped before a gate.
“We’re here.” It said, the voice resembling a man’s. The gate opened, creaking loudly. Behind the gate was a large, antique mansion. From the door, a short, bald, and chubby man waddled up to the strange figure.
“I’m glad you’ve come. It’s gotten quite bad.” The owner said, a worried look on his face.
“Short on time. Show us.”
“Us?”
The supposed plague doctor appeared to become flustered. “Me.” It corrected.
“Of course, Mister….”
After an uncomfortably long pause, a voice finally uttered from the mask:“Rat.”
“Of course. Right this way, Mr. Rat. Could I take your coat?”
“No.”
Rat followed the man into a large entryway. A staircase winded up the side of the room. From where he stood, Rat could see that the house was as large as it looked. The man led Rat through several rooms different rooms, stopping in a long room with a fireplace burning in the back. The room looked comfy, except for…
“Gah!” The man stepped back. On the floor in front of the fireplace was an oversized cockroach, easily spanning 10 feet across the floor. “There you have it. Can you do the job?”
“Of course.” Rat stepped forward. “You may want to step outside.”
That the man did. Once he left, Rat moved in front of the cockroach, scanning its body for weak points.
“Weakness spotted. Go for the neck.” Rat’s right hand stretched out. He raised his hand up, and brought it down onto the cockroach’s neck. The force from the chop was so strong that the roach’s head flew through the wall like a bowling ball, blasting into a different room.
“Job’s done. Go for it, boys.”
The mask popped off. The trench coat fell to the ground. From inside the mask, a creature popped out. From the trench coat, two popped out. These creatures were giant rats, each easily three feet in length.
The rats moved up to the cockroach and began feasting on its corpse.
“WHAT’S ALL THE COMMOTION IN THERE?!?!” The man burst back into the room. “Egad!” He shrieked at the sight of the rats, who were busy chowing down on roach meat.
The three rats turned their heads, squeaking in surprise. In a mad dash, the oversized creatures ran towards any opening they could fit through, disappearing behind various doors. The man searched his entire house with no luck.
He sighed. He returned to the entryway and picked up his phone yet again.

Sally
By: Julia Owen
“Little Sally, little Sally,
Would you like to come and play?”
Out of fright, she ran to her room and jumped into bed, thinking the comforter would protect her. She pulled them over her head, succumbing to the warmth. Her eyes, glossy from the tears, closed in anticipation - she knew what was coming.
“Oh, Sally, please come out,” cooed the deep voice, “I’ve been waiting for you all day.”
Sally shrieked, pulling the blankets closer.
Tip. Tip. Tap.
She heard the footsteps coming closer and closer, and soon felt the blankets slowly being pulled down.
“No!” she gasped and held on with all her might.
Suddenly the blankets were ripped off of her. She screamed.
“Sally, it’s time for dinner, you ding dong,” the deep voice let out a hearty laugh. Sally giggled at her father. She wiped away her tears that formed while being tickled minutes before.
“It’s meatloaf.”
And with those two words, Sally ran to the kitchen.
